Updates All Around!

Hi!!!

tenor

It’s so good to be back! At first it was odd not posting every Sunday or Thursday, so hopefully, I’ll be able to pick up the habit again. Now, I know you’re just dying to know how my non-eventful life has been! So, let’s get right to it!

Camp Nano Update

I had a goal (150 pages, so half my novel pretty much), but ran into a few bumpy spots that made me pull the breaks at page 13.

So, I did not complete my goal this month 😦 but that’s okay! I’ve been using the time to brainstorm and search new ideas, look at old ones and see the problems and try to find ways to fix them, so, I wasn’t completely leaving my WIP alone. Speaking of my WIP . . .

WIP Update

I was able to find a critique partner and honestly, after she read my first and second chapter plus my chapter summaries, I was rethinking a lot of things. I love the new beginning and I’ll probably keep it, but there are still so many pieces missing from my WIP I didn’t realize before until she pointed it out that it caused me to stop writing and to start actually planning, writing up a full synopsis, going into depth, and rethinking characters, creating personal goals, and changing motivates and so much more.

For those of you who have read parts or all of The Orb of Unlimited Power and you choose to read it once it’s published in the future or by other means, there are going to be a lot of things that have changed, but hopefully not too many. Some characters you’ve read about might not exist anymore. Some characters might’ve changed motives and personalities. Basically, there will be changes and I hope they will benefit the story and make it so much better than it was before.

So, I will be continuing to work at it. Even with my story’s many problems, I still cannot give up on it. I have come too far to just throw it away, so I shall continue to make it better until it is ready. All the information I have on my WIP here will remain, but an update on the map, characters, and certain world aspects will be posted in time. Also, a bit of a reminder, any information I post on this blog is subject to change. This blog is about my journey to publishing a book, so nothing here is set in stone.

Currently, my WIP is at roughly 17,000 Words with many more to go!

Life Update

Life is good, actually. School is done. My online physics class was pure torture – barely passed. I have a few weeks till Fall Quarter, so hopefully, I’ll be a bit productive over my Summer Break Part 2.

My dog is good, though she was feeling a bit sick in July, but she’s back to her perky self. Family is good.

Decided to limit my intake of Netflix which honestly made room for me to actually read and finish books, so yay!

Took a short vacation to the coast (weekend thing), but I’ve been mostly home watching other people’s pets as they are on vacation.

Going to be touring a college campus soon and I toured another one this last Friday.

Started my final, final project for a Digital Design Certificate that I am getting, which isn’t due till March, but I’d rather start it now, then at the last minute.

Yeah, life is pretty good at the moment. Can’t wait to start the Fall Quarter and get back to art classes.

TBR List Update

I’ve been sort of getting into comics lately, but the books I have read/finished this summer are . . .

  • Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
  • Stitches – A Memoir by David Small
  • The One Hundred Nights of Hero by Isabel Greenberg (Book Review coming soon)

I know, it’s not that many, but it’s something rather than nothing, so I’m happy that I got some reading done.

That’s it! How was your summer? For those who participated in Camp NaNo, how did it go? Did you complete your goal? I want to hear all about it!

  1. Wonderful to see you back, Hope! Sounds like your summer has been wonderful and your writing productive! Making changes to a story can be hard, but if they make the story better they’re so worth it. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Lucy! It feels good to be back 🙂 Probably one of the hardest things so far is changing a character’s backstory, making them a completely different person, but everything seems to be going all right. So far . . .

  2. I barely, BARELY scraped by enough to finish my Camp NaNo goal, but I did it! I’m quite shocked I won, though…

Also, it’s so much fun getting to hear about the changes your WIP is going through! I’d love to hear more about it!!! And art classes sound like SO much fun!!! I’m terrible at art, but I’ve recently taken up watercolor painting, so I’m getting into the artsy stuff…sort of???

And THERE ARE GIFS FROM BOTH ‘THE SECRET WINDOW’ AND ‘YOU’VE GOT MAIL’!!!!!! My life…it is complete…

    1. I’m so happy for you! Congrats! It must’ve felt so good to finish!
I’d love to share more, I just need to find the time to update summaries, character descriptions, etc. But I’ll get it done eventually:)
Ooooo watercolor is so fun! I hope you enjoy it! (Always use thick paper . . . always).
Glad the gifs completed your life! 😀

      1. It did! Sort of… It was more of an “Oh goodness, I can’t believe I actually finished this,” kind of feeling… XD

Yesssssss!!!! I cannot WAIT!!!! Summaries and character descriptions are so difficult for me to write! “This person has a face. You’re welcome.”

I have some watercolor paper that I’m using, so YAY! Step One: COMPLETE! I’m currently on my first ‘project’, so hopefully it turns out okay…?

        THEY REALLY DID!!!
